Ray King, the chief executive of Bupa, has announced that he is to retire in 2012.
Bupa’s Board will soon begin a search both within and beyond the firm for a successor.
King has served as chief executive for three years, prior to which he spent seven years as group finance director.
Chairman Lord Leitch paid tribute to King’s time as chief executive, praising his strong track record of good results, increasing revenue and annual profits.
Lord Leitch added that when King left Bupa would be in a strong position with plenty of potential for further growth.
The board thanked King for his contribution to the firm and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.
King himself described his time as chief executive to have been a huge privilege, and said that he had been honoured to work with such talented and dedicated people.
